WHAT IS NATURAL WINE?

There is no one legal definition for natural wine. Still, there are certain markers that the community has accepted as important guidelines for making natural wine:

  • Sustainable practices and no synthetic chemicals in the vineyard
  • Understanding grapevine ecology – meaning a long-term vision of soil treatment and water usage
  • Spontaneous fermentation – meaning no inoculated yeasts or bacteria
  • Minimal intervention in winemaking – meaning no abusive chemical corrections
  • Low or no sulphur dioxide
WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT NATURAL WINE?

There are lots of questions about natural wine. Is natural wine better for you? Is natural wine better for the planet? Does natural wine give you less of a hangover? Is natural wine an anti-capitalist project for destroying the wine industry from? 

We don’t know the answers, necessarily. But we care about it because natural wine is more fun, more alive, more magical, and more interesting to drink than conventional wines. Check out our manifesto for more reasons why we love natural wine.

CAN I ATTEND CLASSES IF I’M A BEGINNER?

Absolutely. Our natural wine classes and courses in Barcelona are intended for beginners and professionals alike. We meet you where you are in your natural wine studies. Some of our tastings are more fun; some are more educational. But there are never any pretensions or snobbiness. Check out our upcoming introduction to natural wine courses.

DO YOU HAVE PROFESSIONAL CLASSES?

We have extended natural wine courses that are intended for a higher level of study. We teach how to taste natural wines like a professional sommelier, to find terroir and other parts of the winemaking process in the wine. We also offer private, professional staff training on natural wine sales and service for restaurant and hospitality teams in Barcelona and around Europe.

CAN I BOOK A PRIVATE NATURAL WINE TASTING WITH YOU?

Of course! We are happy to organise a private natural wine tasting for your event. We can adapt our classes and tastings to make a custom natural wine experience for you. It can be a seated tasting or a natural wine bar at your celebration in and around Barcelona.
